CHRIS BELCHER

Originally graduating from the joint Derby/Nottingham Polytechnic’s ‘Creative Photography’ course, Chris Belcher later gained a Master of Arts in Photographic Studies at Derby University.

His later photographic career including a long period as a Lecturer in Photography in both FE & HE.

His photographic work has been widely exhibited in both the UK and in Europe, commissioned for the Derby Photographic Festival, and toured internationally by the British Council and has been published in various journals and catalogues. He has been the recipient of several and funding grant and prizes

Following on from his early photographic work which included ‘Sightings’, were ‘Ideal Homes’, ‘A Crown Building’, ‘Zero Meridian-Fragments from a Line’, ‘Puig Major, Observations in Passing’, and ‘Sound-Base-Site’. The influence of both historical and contemporary American landscape photography, in particular ‘The New Topographics’ is clearly apparent in his later works.

Although he has not exhibited his work publicly for some years, he remains actively engaged in photography and continues to make work.
